This is a short version of the much more detailed half hour video I made for TinySTUDIO TV - shared with TinySTUDIO magazine subscribers (fiberygoodness.com) It is a very festive art yarn that was hugely fun to make, and based on the principles of some previous yarns I designed such as my ‘Shagpile retro’ yarn ( ua-cam.com/video/22pw8cArd4c/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared - go to 18:00 for just the sp...
Chain Ply Mega Stacks by Suzy Brown
Переглядів 50111 місяців тому
This is an easy way to build up loads of body and texture on an art yarn - excellent for weaving with and quick to make! The technique is basically making a chain plyed yarn around a core thread, with lots of opportunity to add extra textures and interest. This is my second mini how-to on this technique, my earlier one is a variation on this one as it uses a lockspun single, and can be seen her...
Painted Spinning Wheel: Majacraft Luna by Suzy Brown
Переглядів 892Рік тому
In my growing portfolio of painted spinning wheels, this is the first one I have done with a forest/leaf theme! Painted for a friend, who is an amazing geo-caching whizz and wanted something that reflected that passion, I devised a leafy design and also hid some little geocache icons around the wheel too :) This was one of the first Majacraft Luna's shipped in New Zealand in 2023! When we were ...
Art Yarn: Beehive yarn Wrapped in Locks, a Suzy Brown video
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
This is a yarn I am calling 'Lock the Hive!' because it is lovely puffy art yarn beehives, each one wrapped in a luscious long Teeswater lock. This is a popular kind of yarn with yarn artists, the combination of curvy puffs and curly locks is irresistible! In the video I demo how to spin the thick and thin yarn, making sure you get nice big neat puffs ready to ply into beehive yarn, and then ho...

I really liked the way you showed people how to spin locks so beautifully. Thank you for sharing this with us all. Now I feel a little more confident in giving this a try.
Thanks so much for this. I learned so much!
This is amazing! I love it!
Yes!! I let the twist do the work. Pinching and rotating in the same direction as your spin allows you to do a controlled draft. I can spin cobweb with this method. I call it the "calligraphy brush" draft. ❤
This is amazing! 😍
Thanks! Its a bit too fiddly for an everyday spin but as a special, it is super fun to create :)
This video saved my first hand spun yarn!! Thank you!!
Thank you for this video! I’m a lace knitter with a marked preference for very fine yarns. That brought me to spinning, but there’s precious little information out there for very fine yarn. Depending on the pattern, I don’t want a lot of bloom either. I’ve been spinning for eight months now, and I’m always a bit confused about terms like ‘cobweb’ and ‘frog hair’. Apparently, according to your video I’m spinning frog hair right now. Wow. Another thing: you’re absolutely right. No need to be intimidated by fine spinning. Perhaps I didn’t even think to be intimidated, I just span what I wanted. And if people say it takes a long time to spin that fine… it depends how you look at it. If you consider the weight, it can take ages to spin 250 grams… but if you think in terms of metres/yards, it doesn’t take a lot longer than a similar amount of metres or yards of thicker yarn. Right now I’m working on 800-1000 metres of 2-ply for a lace scarf for my daughter in an Estonian pattern. As you said: it’s fun to do. And you can spin up the quantities, colours and gradients you want. 😊
Just beautiful. Thank You for your wonderful tutorial ❤
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks. These look pretty and fun to spin.
thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Thank you for taking the process all the way to the swatch! I'm a pre-newbie spinner and excited to see how it turns out!
I hope you enjoy it!
Absolutely beautiful, this is the best technique that I have found so far, just beginning my journey with spinning etc. and find it so amazing what can be achieved. I hope that my art yarn will one day be as beautiful as yours. TFS
Glad it was helpful! Have fun with your art yarn spinning :)
I absolutely love this! I have some super fine crimpy wool from some of my Rambouillet that this just might be perfect for! Do you mind if I ask what kind of spinning wheel you have that does such bulky yarns?
Anything with texture and uncarded or unprocessed will work, and the Rambouillet should be soft too. My wheel is a Majacraft Aura, it’s a great all-round wheel but really shines for making art yarns :)
Oh My Goodnes, you are amazing. Everytime I see you do something I am so inspired. Never thought I might like to make art yarn but now I do!!!! Thank you!
You are so welcome! The most fun of it all is just trying stuff out to see what will happen :)
'Making Rolags on the Majacraft Drum Carder' I have no idea what those words mean but I am excited to find out!
Beautiful!!!!
Thank you!!
Ooooo can we talk about the artwork & runes on the drum carder? Did you add that or did the carder come that way?
The runes are cool aren't they! I have Elvish script on my Aura spinning wheel, and these dwarves runes were a Christmas gift for my carder from Majacraft, Andrew is very very good at making art with the laser :) They will customise on request too, price dependant on complexity of design. I
Gosh...Thank You 💗
Thank you! That was helpful! ❤
So glad!
Thanks so much for sharing. I’m getting ready to do your combing class, so this video is perfect timing. Question, what program are you using on your iPad?
I’m using Procreate, but you can use any drawing app that lets you make lines and add colour :)
Wonderful idea!
Beautiful work. Nice music too. Thanks for a great video. ❤
Excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Gorgeous
Mesmerizing!
Hi Suzy, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️❣️ Thankyou so much for sharing this video and how to use the Hackle for a Colour Pattern. I don't have a Hackle, but I Love, Art Yarns. I think I might have to try this out on my Blending Board. Following your Design Tips on Blending Board Patterns. You're a true inspiration, to Art Yarn Lovers ( at least me), and your expertise is invaluable and very much appreciated. 🌟✨️🌟 Happy Blending and Spinning Fibre Friend 🎉🎡🐑🥰 Take care and stay safe Lots of love , Blessings and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🐕
How did you wash this gorgeous spin to set the twist?
Hi! I soaked it for five minutes in hot/warm water, dropped it into cool water then pressed out the excess and hung it to dry :) The warm water helps it to bloom and makes the puffs even puffier
Now I feel like saving for a hackle!❤
I absolutely loooooove the colour choices and the yarn! This type of yarn made my brain explode with excitement the first time I saw it. I knew nothing about spinning then but knew without a doubt that I must learn to spin art yarn. It still excites me many years later.❤❤❤
Me too!! Its impossible to get bored with spinning art yarns isn’t it :)
Gorgeous!!!
Fantastic, I've learnt so much from your video and explanations. Thank you.
Great to hear!
What a fun and wonderful idea. All the texture and colors really bring the narwal to life. I'm tempted to use my less than perfect spins for this sort of project.
That turned out beautiful! I got a six inch hackle for Christmas. Now I need something to hold it in place.
Gosh Watching your videos are hypnotic and inspiring for us newbies. Thank you soooooooo much
When you wind it into a cake, then wind it back on the niddy noddy, do you start with the inside end or wind from the outside?
I usually go from the outside as it’s easier when it’s damp that way
Wanting to try spinning singles but no idea how to finish. Than you for this video, saved it for future reference. Been spinning for over ten years and still learning new things.
Ok first of all the narwhal is beautiful! My mind is swirling with ideas! I love to spin art yarn so this has so many exciting possibilities! Thank you for a clear, informative and inspiring video!
Not a lot of information on the Luna itself yet. How do you like it? I spin on an old Ashford traditional, am ready to try something new.
The Luna is proving very popular indeed! There is a Facebook group about Majacraft Wheels and Tools where we have a discussion going, its not an official Majacraft group but lots of wheel owners there including new Luna owners :) I love mine (of course, I helped design it!) because it is super smooth and stable for spinning, as well as light to treadle and easy to set up, most people seem able to spin nice yarn straight away with no big new-wheel-learning-curve! I think you would like it :)
@@tinyStudioMagazine thank you, I'll join the group!
I'm spinning singles for a shawl at the moment and, having watched your video, tried this method with a little of the yarn. I have to say this is wonderful. I can't get to my swift at the moment but as it was only a small amount of yarn I simply unwound it rather than wind into a ball and then wound it on my tiniest niddy noddy. When I have finished spinning the singles I will be using your method to finish the yarn. Thank you so much! 😀💗💗👍
That sounds like it was a great success! I can't take credit for this technique, but I am happy to share it, the results are so good :)
@@tinyStudioMagazine I finished spinning my fine singles of 40 wpi and went on to treat the yarn with your method. It worked really well but I was exhausted and my arms were dropping off as there were 800 metres of yarn!! I have knitted it now into a lacey shawl and it was lovely to knit with. Perhaps another time I will spin the same length in shorter amounts at a time so I can avoid the fatigue!
This is a brilliant idea! Thank you for sharing it.
Sounds interesting.
WoW!!!
Just found your channel your work is so inspiring. I have been spinning for only about 3 months but am very serious about it and preparing my own fibers. I have a Rose, and now I'm thinking about getting the combs by Majacraft too. Hello from the US!!!
Hi Alison! Welcome to the world of fiber, it is endlessly inspiring :) You are starting with one of the best wheels ever, and I can highly recommend the combs too, mine travel everywhere with me, with them you will produce wonderful fairy fiber you will love! Have fun :)
Lovely ❤. So helpful.
Lovely. Thank you ❤.
That looks fluffy and yummy! I got a small hackle for Christmas, and I’m looking forward to using it.
Thank you ❤🎉😊
Thank you for the excellent instructions. 😊
You are so welcome!
Absolutely gorgeous yarn love love 💖 thank you 😊 you make it look so easy 🤔
Is that done on a spinning wheel?
Yes :)
